I was starting to write a long wall of text, but I got bored rereading it for spellchecking and the like.
The TL:DR would be, token vendors, as Verb coined, are not re-equip stations, not only do they not hold something for everyone, but there are items that are simply non compatible with your alignment/race and so forth.
The death system is a relic. From a time when dying wasn't something too hard to overcome. There were people online, RP wasn't a thing and you rarely lost anything for long, sometimes your re-equip party netted you upgrades instead.
Currently, with plots comming and going, the shifting nature of our playerbase and the discrepancy of how much someone can re equip based on class and game knowledge, the death system is far to punishing.
The quick fix would be to flip the system on its head. Standard, non pk death looses you max 1-2 items instead of randomly keeping 1-2. Possibly a lesser soulbind could be allowed for cheap that lets you guarantee a few of your items are never lost on standard deaths, so the fighter Bob can pay a token sum at his temple to ensure his sword, plate and purdy pink cloak don't get lost on death, but he might have to replace his bracers or ring.
Or you could add a new command at temples, if the faithful Bob lost his stuff to some ogres he can go pray and all his crap is replaced, save perhaps 1-2 items, again with the lesser soulbind thingy perhaps. The pray option might net you a small exp cost, or a level cap, like half hour per level or something. It wont outright discourage you to explore, but still has some risk to your RL time and sanity should you loose.
And by standard deaths I'm thinking non pk, non 'heroic' type stuff. And heroic being things like Klauth, Arkhon, Demongate, Crystalline tower and the like. Those places aren't the easiest to wander into accidently if you keep your wits about you. And those are places of risk and reward. A newbie accidently going into deep echoes without visiting a bank and being up shit creek however. _________________ Intelligence is knowing a tomato is a fruit,
