Hey Guys,

I'm going to ask for a favor. Plotting is something I enjoy, because of the story and I hope all of you enjoy it as well. Of late I haven't really felt the pull of plotting, because the immersion for me has been lacking. I thought a lot of this was because I can see everyone's abilities/stats etc as an avatar? I started a character and it isn't that. While Game admin opened up conversations OOCLY, I don't think their intention was to ruin the immersion for avatar or players alike. Comments like the following really hurt the game for me and people seeking story-like immersion

Man, I just kicked his ass, he can't even hit my impressive 105AC!

whisper to x: Dude, I just got a +7 sword of death with three ac and 500 strength!

instead could we try to think about stuff like this?

Bob, I just kicked his ass. He can't even seem to strike me except with magical spells, his melee is ineffective against me.

whisper to x: Alex, I just got a sword of the death that is highly enchanted, of the seventh circle enchantments and adds to defense and gives me the power of a titan.

While I can't restrict OOC conversations do remember that I see mindnet, tells and whispers, which during a plot REALLY are something that affects my enjoyment and I care about your enjoyment, so I hope you care about mine. There is an ooc line for chatting oocly, have at it. I can turn this line off, I can't avoid the other stuff nor can our heavier Rpers. They can turn off OOCLY and if youre chatting there, I'd tell them too. If we are trying to be inclusive we have to find a way to support RP, MMO(type exploration, chatting etc). Forcing OOC talk on others isn't cool and can be prevented by using the OOC line, which anyone can turn off. Having OOC talk while Rpers could be scrying or attempting to RP IMO is just a dick move.

Lastly, PLEASE stop talking about movies or football while playing unless its on the OOCLY or at the VERY least if you want to chat OOCLY just take yourself out of the game by doing the following.

Bob poses (OOCLY chatting about RL stuff, please no RP stuff right now)
Rose poses (OCCLY chatting about RL stuff, please no RP stuff right now)

OR

Bob poses (OOCLY chatting and stuff right now, will talk exploration and games stuff, no pk/rp right now)

This isn't a let me hide OOCLY type thing, but if you do this once in a while I don't see anything wrong with it. IF you're constantly hiding behind it to avoid PK, that would be wrong.

Anyway, I'm hoping this strikes a cord with people and that you'll help with my enjoyment!

Thanks,
Kas

There are times when I wabt to talk player ti player fir information that ither players don't need to be privy to. For example, asking fir level info for levelling down. Those are things quick ebough to make mail too cumbersome. I use say ooc for this. I do use rp terms when I can. What is this character doing? Oh, he's restraining himself so as not to hurt us when battling besides us. However, sometimes, translating ooc stuff into rp terminology gets soo confusing for other players, so ooc discussions are needed. What would you suggest? Is usung say ooc okay for quick abd private player to player conversations? Or is there something else that I can use that I don't know about?

I do not think he means asking for clarification OOC. (I think) that's generally regarded as fine, and is usually done with a whisper, but a say isn't end of the world either (plus it doesn't make others look at you quite as suspiciously as a whisper...) Telsivar has a nice alias for when he talks OOC, something standard like that is a nice touch. Or of course there's always the ooc line, which I'm personally a bit uncomfortable using for my ooc questions or comments so I get it if people wouldn't want to.

Kassius can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he means more along the lines of saying things AS your character, which wouldn't make sense from an in-game context.

For example: "Hey want me to put ac and dex and specials on your sword?"

This would be an utter nonsensical sentence to my character. I'd probably ask them what the hell they were talking about.

And then it's awkward. Sad

Da Rose summarized it well.

There is nothing preventing anyone from chatting ooc all day. This is mostly a please don't do it for my sake Smile It kills the game for me and we have OOC line, which I can turn off, so seems like a fair compromise to me.

A lot of the purpose for the OOC line's installation in the first place was just for this - if you want to chat OOC, please take it there. As it can be turned off for those who want immersion. OOC queries if you have a problem are fine (or can also be directed to a line if appropriate!), just more to direct the chatter somewhere that won't disrupt those looking for an immersive experience Smile

So I heard about this post on the OOC line earlier from Nienne (true story). She said it was a debate so I wanted to log in and dog pile on one side or ther other, but not so much a debate.

I think another way of expressing the immersion desire expressed here is something that I always thought was a required standard for Roleplaying.

STAY IN CHARACTER.
or Stay out of Character.
Don't straddle IC/OOC.

Of course I think that compliments and or suggestions on how to improve roleplaying are wonderful. Though that can often wait until the rp scene is wrapping up/over-with.
