It might just be me, but from 30-50 is something that takes forever for me... I like to once in a while just grind xp, if the area is worth the time to do so...for me I have not found a area after 30 to do this....so my lvling speed is a few quest items and the biography quest...and then it takes a bit to get up there...yes 0-30 can go fast....the rest....not so much

I know for a VERY long time the only newbie who stayed was Verbannon. The point I was making isn't about newbies trying it, we can get that all day, but from a sales prospective, because that is what we are doing and it is what I specialize in from a work perspective, you want retention or use of your product to go up. SG's isn't going up, we are handing out endless of amounts of "free samples" or "trials", which isn't leading us anywhere and hasn't for a VERY long time.

I am all for recruiting and seeing the population grow, I just don't understand how we expect to do that with 1 player online, what incentive is there for a new player to stay, not just try it? I don't have the answers and unlike what Mikyn says, I apologize if I'm ruining everyone's optimistic high. I'm trying to be realistic, think of it from how I would in sales and this is how I'd think of it. I've give out XYZ to try, I've done XYZ, this is my 8 or 10th call on X client(8 or 10 years). Damn, maybe it's time to move on to another client I can get business from. While SG can't move on, we at some point have to face the truth that maybe we are over a growth and stuck at our current population. I'll support Tels, Saqira, Innaeli, Cedric in anything they want to do and I'll try to help where I have energy and patience for SG in whatever direction we continue.. Multiple servers, RP encourage, Hack-n_slash only..

I care about this place and the people who enjoy it, well most anyway. I want you guys to log in and have fun, to see more than the same 5 faces. However, I do think the days of RP being the true focus and the drive behind this "server" at least are over. Saide pretty much said that in his last post when talking about leveling and to be honest I'm one of the biggest advocates of RP. Nienne and Saide both told me that the reason they moved to RP encourage was the amount of time it required for Plots/"babysitting"(paperwork) and the drain on immortals.

I never understood this from a player perspective, but sometimes even discussion can be draining, because our list of things to do is SOOOOOO long and we really want to help you all. I get that now and while I'm still a bull in a china shop and a go getter, I've come to realize that maybe all the effort behind the scenes isn't worth it when the player base is causally bent on RP. This isn't to freak anyone out, we are still and will continue to be RP encouraged, but I just think we all need to grow to a point we are okay with that, because as a community we haven't to some extent and I'm to blame for that, because I continued to promote a RP agenda as a player and when I first became a wiz.

I'm 100% behind Nienne and Saide, while Saide is not active and coding on the mud, he does maintain the server for us and his opinion still VERY much matters. He has been more active lately, because whether he admits it or not, he misses this place Razz He and I, and I don't speak for Nienne ever, would assume though we are all over the drama between RP and non RP that seems to never die.

Edit

Thanks to Aelaj/Summer for being a cooler party than I was and pointing out something in my anger/frustration I hadn't thought through.

Im begining to like this topic.
MORE BLOOD TO THE GODS OF CHAOS
(That comment may or may be not a sarcastic plea to calm down)

That being said, I know you all are wrong. I'm not going to tell you why this time, and I'am not saying it so you would just read through my strange comment and move on with your lives thinking there should no internet in mental asylums. I want you to stop and think on your own points and and talk with imaginary selves asking them "what if what I just have said is total bullshit", so it becomes obvious that it indeed is. For everyone here, including me.

p.s.
If you suspect this post is irony in its full, I'm afraid I'm staying out of character this time. This is a wheel I've observed you (all) grinding through over and over with passion more inspiring than the mud itself.

So how about a rebirth system that allows for some bonuses - say extra stats/feats/skills each time, but each time it requires a lot more exp to advance through the levels. sure there will be a lot of turnover at first, but eventually people will be forced to stick with a char for a year just to max out, while the newbies are still at a regular rate and everyone won't be leveling 10 characters around their one, and honestly that would be amazing.

Anyhow, with the way this whole thread has devolved into a mess of negativity (with a sprinkling of weirdness, thanks Summer! Wink) I'm feeling a bit deflated today. So I'll be stepping away from the thread, the forums, and even the game for now. Maybe for a day, a week, an eternity. Probably more like a day as such things go. :/

Peace and love, yall!

I actually like the idea of a rebirth like system, but I don't have the ability to code that so it'd be up to someone like Ares, Lujke, Saide or Nienne. However, I don't have any idea how it would work. Are you wanting someone to get perks on a newer character or just perks and recreation with same character?

I'd also think the current classes/magic crafting/etc would need to be balanced before that were possible too or it'd just greatly skew the mud's balance issues, but I couldn't swear to that.

Well considering that since I have started an effort to getting the game out there, we have had quite a few new players, I know when each one is new pretty much due to the same questions asked about the mass. I did not bring up this topic to cause issues, but to bring any issues to light and find a progressive way to bring things back together all around.

Leveling fast is one thing, so really ideas for distracting players from wanting to powerlevel is still open here. I personally would love to goto 60 or higher, making it possible to battle the end game with 3 or 4 instead of 5 or 6 maxed out people. But I think it should take some effort to get there too as well. Something to trigger the system shouldn't be much harder than the current lvl 30 unlocking through accounts. The user side for setting things up would be the most code intensive, and adding to the creation system. once triggered I would say most items would get scaled down per the flag system to a max of +4, and maybe 2 worn and player crafted items chosen would stay on the npc, as long as they crafted them themselves of course. Any crafted files put up for review to be added in the random item generator system so it adds more content to the world and less work for writers? The player could write up a performance like a bard then and submit it with the options of wandering a city or tavern hopping every couple weeks or so. Showing up here or there I guess. then flag scale the pc to 20 or 25 and save the file for the npc creation. Just kinda a rough outline of how it could work out I think. You get popped off you the creation system once submitted and choose a new name to the account, which gets credited a rebirth point you can choose to use or not when you link the account like you would making a rare race.

I don't agree with RP enforcement because of issues with standards, everyone has different standards and some are much higher than others, the problem with the old system was that fact. I don't care about all the old bullshit that went on with this imm or that person, to be honest, it's what we gotta move ahead on is the point. Either way, most people are up for RP in varying degrees, I thought it went great chilling in Tabor and newbies would show up sometimes to join in or watch or whatever. Probly makes the game feel alive when theres things happening in a laid back manner, and develop from there.

As for rebirthing, my idea would be a new character altogether, with either more race options or increase level cap, extra stat point, or a choice of a few other things as well. The old character is basically retired and done for, but is kept as a npc, or possible glory hunter, maybe donate them for use in future plottage, show up in a tavern once in a while to recount some tales, like old Garus needs to hit up taverns on a random schedule to mooch drinks, instead of showing up all the time someone was in a bar. Because he was a neat npc and should still be around imho.

Increasing level limits would put the craft system in place because new gear for the next tier would take over, I think it needs some more work, material properties for example, I got this awesome book on all the metals in forgotten realms and their properties, it's cool.. some items still need added to the lists, there's a lot of basic things you can't make still. PEople complain the enchants are too much or something but people will always find a way to give themselves some edge. Also I know end level game stuff should be tough, but getting 5 or 6 people together and make sense isn't possible, by then they move on or go do somethin else typically if you can make it happen at all. This could open up more epic gear possibilities.

I still believe the core problem is more players, and as I said, we've had a good amount of newer people trying the game out and I'll keep on doing what I can.

I am very excited about the idea of rebirth and would love it. Any imm monitoring this idea please give it a lot of thought. I would be onboard for this and would love to be a test monkey.

My original idea was to have a rebirth system in place. I had a bunch of ideas about how it would work but at that time I was thinking more along the lines of a completely new game (with totally different classes, areas, etc.), exp would not be as high, you'd sacrifice gear (and need powerful gear equipped) to be able to rebirth/reincarnate.

Every so many times - say 10 - you would get some type of perk that would have various effects. Maybe you would also get something each time but it would be minor.

You could also store some amount of gear in a vault (I already coded those vaults). I had a lot of ideas but mostly they didn't fit with "RP" because I was more interested in creating features for the game whether or not they actually fit into D&D or had any real "RP"/realistic elements or not. I have actually coded an auction house too.

I also wanted to extremely trim combat - I got a bit hung up on how to do that without just totally changing the game but maybe it needs that anyway.

I had a lot of radical ideas but like I said I am not sure that most of them fit SG or even the notion of RP. I like game features more than I care to stick to a book or an idea.

1.) I am not opposed to a way to slow down leveling (especially for older players) but I'd prefer it as some type of opt in method or reward method - tangible rewards for leveling slowly for example, or some type of self imposed level cap / tax that accumulates some bonuses/points/whatever the long it stays on - while gaining exp with this on you'd get something that could be used to offer some type of rewards. That's just a really basic idea that comes to mind.

Personally I'd love to see vaults especially in my house hah.

An auction house would give crafters some way to sell some things, I'm not against this just concerns may arise.

It would take work but special classes could be a rebirth reward, with more race selections, like aasimir and such.

I'm not sure what you mean by trimming combat?

I know theres a crazy backlog of stuff somewhere you guys deal with and less and less coders to work on it so I try to consider functions already in the game.
Anyway, I'm just trying to get ideas out and improve the game overall if that's possible. The core in my belief is it starts with more players always, and I'll keep lookin for good ways to advertise in my spare time when I can.

I meant making it so that it was not as spammy. So you'd see essentially a rundown of each round but like I said I got a bit hung up on how to do that.

I've seen a few places condense combat, i.e. hit x 4 miss x2 just consolidate the automated combat in a briefcombatcondense, I think this would be a good addition for visual impaired players.

Echoes would need trimmed in this mode too I guess, I've gotten word big splashes of echoes can freak out a screenreader, Which effectively puts people dependant on those ata severe disadvantage over trigger spammers.

The rebirth system you mention saide is alright, if there was something like a limit of 10, each time you rebirth add a max level cap and offers a slight bonus of your choice, i.e rebirth 4th time could give a stat point, 5th time offer choice between a +1 hit roll, +1 fort, will, or reflex, etc, each time youd have to reach max level again, with 50-51 being as much xp as 1-50, exponentially increasing above that.

My system is more of a retirement system, that character is done, granting specialty races on creation or possible prestige classes and such. For adding to the world and all, it should be worth it.

That's the main reason I left SG - my ideas and a lot of the other ideas just do not fit together. I personally do not care if the MUD evolved to something completely different from D&D. And like I said I was more concerned with game features that give players lots of possibilities - an infinite rebirth system - for example. I just do not think a lot of my ideas would really work with SG.

That and I got other things to worry about with my life. I know we all do.

Honestly, it wouldn't be that bad an idea to evolve away from the D&D rulesets. The math underlying D&D doesn't really make a lot of sense. D&D, like a lot of other old RPG's were designed for maximum cool and balance was an afterthought (Palladium games anyone?).

I messaged Saide in SG and told him roughly the same thing: a good game doesn't stay good for long if it doesn't evolve, it become stagnant. I think he should take it the game in whatever direction he wants. We'll all follow, I'm sure.
