I've spent several hours trying to find out how to play the game, going through the tutorial and forcing my way through the help files. I keep getting told to read such and such for more info, but still can't figure out how to do a lot of the stuff I had expected to be quite easy.

So I ask, is there a complete list of commands I can read through? I found the first page of the player commands, but can't find out how to get any further than this.

Thanks in advance.

Would someone be able to describe the process of memorizing a spell?

Code:
prepare mage magic missile
You should take out your spellbook and memorize!

And I can't figure out how to equip the book, or how to use it in general. There's "A Book" in my inventory, but wielding that doesn't do anything to help.

Code:
get book

doesn't help either...[/code]

for memorizing a spell:
prepare <class> <spellname>
(you can prepare multiples of a spell by adding "times #" to above command)

for casting a spell see help <spellname> for syntax, there could be arguments for diff spells but they all start with:
cast <class> <spellname>

Other command of use:
spells <class> by level - shoes you what spells are out there
recall <class> spells - shows you what spells you have prepared and the number you can know per spell level

As to the book you do not need to equip it but if you wish you can wield it, to see more about the book you might try help book.

We do recommend that new players do not start with a caster class as there is a learning curve to the game, but you are certainly welcome to try. Good luck.

For the other spellcasting classes you'd use prepare <class> <spellname> times x, but for the mages the command has not been changed, but you use command memorize <spellname>

To cast the spells, it's for all classes cast <class> <spell>

I would recommend using aliases for casting spells.

E.G.
If you are a mage, you could make a alias:
alias mem memorize mage $*

That would create a alias "mem whatever you type"
So you could type "mem magic missile"
and the mud would understand it as "memorize mage magic missile"

Do the same for casting.
"alias cast cast mage $*"
and simply type"cast spellname" Smile

also, the word 'attacker' works for identifying any foe attacking you.
So instead of trying 'cast magic missile on qualzhuzathasels"
Just go 'cast magic missile on attacker"

Hope it helps a little with the spellcasting bit. Smile
