Once upon a time, long...long ago, so long ago I'm not even trusting my memory entirely on this, there was a list that showed "The Most Successful Adventurer" - and I believe there were categories.. most gold..most places explored..most kills..most pks, etc. Now, something like this would clearly be OOC, but if a system is already in place, and could be reset every week or month or something, maybe some friendly competition could get people looking for every last corner of the world to get to the top of that list. And of course it wouldn't be fair to the lowbies who are limited to their own corners of the world, but it could give them something to strive for. Or, maybe for some people, just knowing the percentage of the world they've explored could encourage them to explore more.
Also, @Verb, there is already something IG that allows you to enchant items..a limited amount (and beyond weapons), but you have to treasure hunt around to find it. |

We actually want to put something like this back into the game - basically to do like you suggested - encourage some friendly competition
I just remember it listing the characters with the most experience. It might have listed other stuff - but what you've mentioned I think are good places to start - just to encourage people (people who like being at the top anyway) to get out and do stuff -give them something to strive for. |

@Viola Must be new Last time I checked a few years ago there wasn't any _________________ PM me in the forum here when you want me on to RP or dungeon dive. The forum will automatically notify me by e-mail. Then my e-mail will send me a text message. Then I will get on likely within minutes. |

You guys are talking about the top 20 list. It was top 20 characters by experience. It listed experience total, along with a few other things like class, kills and deaths. It respawned and updated every reboot.
What made it interesting was that it was actually difficult to get onto the list. Deaths from glory hunters and pkilling were common enough that maxing out was impossible.
The game has changed and getting to max xp is expected, given enough time.
Relic of a bygone age, i suggested putting something like this in a while back, but only for permadeath characters. Ie you get up until your first death then your character is gone. And you only get credit for pkills of higher level characters. |

Saying that the top players are the top xp just encourages the playerbase to grind to get on the list. While it was an interesting bit of code, I don't know if that is what defines a successful character.
Having a list to compete one against another would be nice but I don't know what an appropriate metric that would be. _________________ you can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose |

Most unique likes for plots run and npcs interacted with, for avatar rankings. |
