It's really helpful if you are asking for an imm to say what it is you need. Different imms are able to deal with different things with more or less difficulty.
As an example, there are a lot of areas of the mud that I don't know that well - if you are having a problem with one of those areas, I may not be able to help - or if I can, it might be a long and annoying process for me to get to it, when a different imm can probably sort it out in a few minutes when they get online.
Since I'm usually busy coding stuff when I'm online, taking a break to check whether you are having an immediate emergency is a distraction. But, I don't want to ignore you if you are having a real emergency that I might be able to help with.
If you ask "Is there someone there who can help with a feats issue", or "Can anyone help? I'm stuck in a room with no exits?" or something along those lines, I can decide whether it's something I can help with.
So, my new policy is that if you ask for an imm, or for me by name, without saying what it's about, I won't respond. I won't ask what you need, or get into a discussion about it, I'll just ignore the request.
Note: I'm not speaking for all imms here. This is just how I plan to manage things while I'm busy. _________________ Bears don't dig on dancing
