Good evening folks. Here is a small *Snicker* amount of common phrases and commands that a new player will run into. I will be adding more commands at as I think of them, with the goal to make the MUD more user friendly. Without further adeu, here is part one, in no particular order

Mud dictionary of commonly used commands and phrases. NOTE: ALL COMMANDS MUST BE LOWERCASE UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

Adjective: what other PCs see when they walk into a room. Pick the most eye-catching things about your character and use that as your adjective. Hair, eye-color, any sort of tattoos or scars. These may also be color-coded. This is essentially your first impression. It should be about one sentence long, with one or 2 things of importance. Please note that you must use the $R command for your race in the describe, or it will trail at the end. There is a list of other shorthand in the help-file, but this one is mandatory for code reasons.
A good example is: A scarred, battle worn human in beat up plate mail.

Describe: This is basically the equivalent of taking a long glance at someone. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it should have some basic things about your character. The type of clothing they wear, their hairstyle, if they have distinct things about them that are noticeable. This is completely color-code-able as well, should you choose. It should typically be about 4-5 lines. If you need any help with what is appropriate in both the describe and the adjective, please ask your friendly neighborhood imm or PC.

Example: This massive human stands head and shoulders above the rest, his battered, yet well-loved armor has seen it's better days, but it is well cared for. His steely blue eyes gaze around the room, looking for signs of mischief. His battle-scarred, stern face shows a few days of stubble, and his angular jaw is set in a constant grimace. He has a large, imposing weapon strapped to his back.

Background: Your backstory. It can be as detailed or as simple as you want it to be. It can be in first person, or third person, or as rumors told by other people, or in a diary format. If your character is more of the sneaky types, it can be as vague and misleading as you want. These are IN-GAME, so do not put things you would not want other players to find out about. Playing a race such as a fey'ri, which thrives on stealth, for example, should not have that in their background unless you want to. For things you want as a backstory you would not want other players to know, we highly encourage the use of PC notes to give your avatars an idea of where to go with plots. The more detailed the backstory and the PC notes, the easier it is to work with you in game. You can also add to your backstory as your story progresses.

PC note: This is something only avatars can see. The command pcnote add and the text will add a PC note to your file. This is highly encouraged, as it will give the avatars knowledge into the inner workings of your characters motivations. Especially useful and encouraged for those playing a more deceptive path. Example

pcnote add Evylin is a spy, she is using Alajandra for information on troop movements of the church she is in oposition too
pcnote add: Evylin keeps a dagger hidden in her left boot for emergencies.

This can be used in conjunction with the thought and avatarmail commands to help flesh out a character, or in a sticky situation, may just prove useful in guiding roleplay.

Thought: Thought sends a petition to the imms to what your character is doing at this very moment. It can be used to find out more about a plot, or for the divine intervention if you need an avatar to assist you as an NPC for a player run plot. These are incredibly useful, and the use of this is highly encouraged. As we move towards becoming more focused on RP, these things will help you flesh out your character and be able to tell greater stories.

Thought: I am going to pull the knife from my boot and cut this rope.

alias- shorthand for command inputs. Example- alias wtp cast warlock walk the planes. Once the alias is set, the shorthand “wtp” can be used to cast the specific spell.

Look- Command used to look around the room or environment you are in. This will give you the full text of the room. You may also look at specific objects inside the room. Most objects available for look will typically stand out in some way, but not always.

Search- used to search a room or environment. You may also use this command to search specific items. Usually there will be a tag such as a text color that stands out.

Example: look at pile of skulls
The pile of skulls sparkles, maybe there is something in it?
search skulls
A few coins tumble from the pile as you search!

Bonuses: This command is used to check things like your saving throws and buffs from items and spells. All buffs from items will be shown, along with the item the buff is coming from. If a buff is given from a spell or feat, the accompanying feat or spell will not be shown, but the buff will still be shown.

Example:

Saving Throws
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Your Fortitude is (35).
Your Reflex is (40).
Your Will is (39).

Miscellaneous
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Your Sight bonus is (Cool.

finger: Command that allows you to see a limited amount of information on a recognized player by the name you have them recognized as. It gives you the characters name, date of birth, amount of mail in their out of game mailbox, the last time the character was logged in, and if the player has included any of their out of game contact information.

Example:
finger ketami
setenv: command used for out of game settings on the mud interface, such as how many lines are shown before a break in a specific string like the who command, or set how far the text goes across the screen.

briefcombat: a command that allows you to control how detailed the combat in game is. This can be turned on and off

who: command that lists players on line. Players will only show up by their recognized names. Players you do not have recognized will show up by their adjective. It also tells you the race of the characters.

Recognize: Allows you to give a player a name. Once the player is recognized, they will be available using the finger command, and for spells like scry, telepathy, and clairvoyance.

Kill: Command that initiates combat. Typing kill <creature/player> will engage the target in combat.

Hit: Used to kill a player character/certain NPCS. This command will send the combatant to the death realm once the player character drops into negative hit points.

PC: Shorthand for player character. Other adventures who are in the realms.

NPC: shorthand for Non-player characters. These will be everyone else in the game, from the shopkeeps to the bartenders to the guards. They serve numerous different purposes in the game.

Imms: Short for immortals. These are the people who run the game, code, and are game masters.

Party: Members of the group you are adventuring with. To create a party, type party form and the name you want for the party. To add members, type party add and the person's recognized name. To join a party.

Buff: Used specifically by a spellcaster or hybrid class to buff themselves and/or their party members.
A buff is also a class of spell that grants bonuses to stats and certain saves, as well as add things like attack bonuses, damage bonuses, and base hit. There are numerous types of buffs for every class. The buff command will cast preloaded buff commands on you or your party. For more information, please see the in-game help file.

Score: your character sheet. This command gives you most of the statistics, aside from your actual stats, which are separate. Some of the things found on score include weight, hight, body type, religion, HP, pocket money, faith, your energy status, and also your hunger, thirst, intoxication, and poison level.

Message: The message other players see when your character leaves and enters a room. This is simply a flavor text, and you can choose to use it. It can also be color-coded. Example

message in walks in with a swagger

message out walks $D with a shake and a shimmy. $D will be the direction you are leaving. All of this is customizable.

This is not even a full list. I'm going to be doing several installments, and more experienced players are encouraged to add to it as well

Thanks, all!

~Eris

A few more (sorry if there's repeats)...

con/consider: Shows you the health of any living thing “con goblin”

nickname: allows you to use a shortened version of a name.
For example, “nickname att attacker” will let you “look att” “con att” etc (Note: attacker is a generic word you can use for mobs once combat is initiated)

discern: Works on weapons and armors to show their overall strength “discern sword”

skillneeded: Works on various pieces of gear to show you what crafting skill is needed to repair it “skillneeded pouch”

rumors: Lists where people are to be found in the game currently (if in cities), and also level appropriate adventure spots

game: “help game” Command to report typos, bugs, praises, ideas

Prompt: allows you to customize your prompt. For example:
prompt $S::$h/$H:
Shows as
Buzzing and Hustling::97/100:

get all coins: Will allow you to pick up ALL the coins on the ground instead of grabbing individual piles
