Bards across the lands spread the word that a new sheriff, now titled Lord Protector,
has been appointed in Seneca.
The story begins with a rash of attacks by packs of orcs on caravans on the roads of
Daggerdale. A large band led by two powerful orcs was destroyed by intrepid adventurers.
Unfortunately, some of the raids were quite successful. Rumors speak of a human girl,
named Josie or Josephine, who survived by hiding in Gore's camp and getting an ogre
to go bring help from the nearby town of Tabor. The ogre was slain, and the girl rescued.
But the caravan's wealth was never discovered.
No one can prove it, but the money is said to have made it into the treasury of Tonovi.
Was Tonovi behind the attacks on innocent merchants? Few can say how it was done,
but Tonovi managed to finance a huge donation to the coffers of the war torn city of
Seneca. The money, some bards say, must have come from the raids.
The money donated to Seneca had a dark purpose. Alfred of Tonovi and his henchman,
the hideous gnoll named Grogin were appointed Sheriffs of Seneca. Alfred was a duelist
of some renown in Tonovi. But with age his skills rusted and he fell from favor at court.
Seeking to regain his former status in the courts of Tonovi, Alfred sought to bring the
city under the influence of Tonovi. Alfred started enforcing the law arbitrarily to suit his
tastes and with great harshness.
One dark day in Seneca, a young boy named Raph was caught stealing a few copper
coins. Alfred and Grogin brought the boy near the gnome token vendor and waited for
a crowd of adventurers to gather. Over the objections of goodly persons and even the
direct challenge of one Prince Andrew, Alfred had the boys hand removed as punishment
for theivery. Except Grogin the gnoll took off the entire arm, killing the boy as an example
for the many bystanders.
This direct act of evil and abuse of law caused the adventurers to take action. Alfred
accepted the challenge of Andrew only to have the gnoll fight in his place at the Lists
in Seneca. Andrew was defeated by the gnoll's incredible strength and fearesome
Hammer of Destruction. Alfred taunted the other adventurers including Trillet, Raveena,
Djaenya, Daevan, Jimijuker and Verbannon. Grogin killed Jimijukers pet fox and gave its
head back to the gnome. The gnome attacked Grogin but was defeated but the monster.
Finally Alfred revealed his plans to subvert Seneca further under the sway of Tonovi and
kick out all elves and other undesirables. The good warriors had enough and beat Grogin and Alfred to an inch of their lives. When Alfred awoke he called down the city
guard and a riot ensued.
Gathering a crowd, and speaking of the many tyrannies of Alfred, Prince Andrew got
the attention of a city official. For the price of 500,000 gold, mostly paid by Raveena,
the Sheriff position was given to Prince Andrew and the lives of Alfred and Grogin were
his to see fit. Grogin awoke and started to rampage through the city, and was slain.
Alfred was bannished by the new Sheriff.
Afterwards Prince Andrew changed his title in the city to be Lord Protector responsible
for law and order in the city of Seneca.
The banished Alfred, humiliated and defeated, returned to Tonovi ....
It is said that the evils of the land are regrouping to determine how best to gain the money
to buy back the position of Sheriff... and how best to arrange for the new "Lord Protector"
to have an unfortunate accident ....
The goodly persons of the realm of course rejoice for the addition of a Paladin in a position to protect the just in the city of Seneca!! |
