PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Implement a true brief mode. Something that only shows my actions, when I'm hit and when my allies are hit and nothing my allies are actually doing. Or at least hides all the regular attacks.

Because I cannot keep up with a party.Or track of whats happening at all. I had to talk on the hm lines just to keep from totally zoning out because the actual game was just a blur racing across my screen.

The only other option I can think of is to create a pause in between rounds based on party size. Don't know how long maybe half a second per member. Might even be a way to aleviate the stress on the system caused by giant parties. That keeps breaking big encounter.

The pause (as far as I understand) would only serve to put the rest of the mud "out of synch" so to speak - you step out of one room that's had some pauses and into another room that isn't lined up; you teleport from somewhere and I would suspect the mud would have more than a hiccup. I'm not sure that this one's feasible to implement, unforch, without some serious code-side nightmares.

Changing what's shown is far easier, I suspect, but the challenge here is that what you want to see may not match what everyone else wants to see. We would need to try to find a happy middle-ground of "enough but not too much" that suited everyone rather than just one or two. If you're missing certain integral items, players won't use it, which makes it a waste. And with those integral items for most of us, I wonder that it may be more than you would care for... so I'm not quite sure where the ideal would sit.

People can be set to different modes right? One person can be in verbose, one in brief and one in super brief.

The best way to find the middle ground 'imo' is through trial and error.

Or maybe just let people toggle on and off what they want to see in combat.

And I didn't realize the flow of an encounter is tied to any hard code. I just assumed all encounters were free floating events anyway.

Just an object was activated at the start of a round, which triggered all the action objects that would occur in the round.

And all the pause suggestion would need would be that at the end of a round the final object triggered would retrigger the initial start of round object after so many heartbeats.

How do encounters run codewise if I may ask?

Uh. I think explaining 'how encounters work' is a way longer conversation than I have the brain capacity for in this medium Smile

I thought you were asking for a modification to the brief mode, rather than another; that might be more workable.

And yes, encounters are independent, but floating objects around the game tend to run into each other sooner or later, and having them out of synch when they collide would cause all sorts of headaches AFAIK. You say that all things operate on "a round", but a round is a specifically set number of seconds (I think seven at present?). As I understand it, if you give someone a couple more seconds in a round somewhere else, it'll cause problems when they meet up to the "normal timing" elsewhere. Not really a can of worms I want to open Wink

I'm guessing you are saying there is some way for encounters occurring in different rooms to interact somehow. Though I don't think I've ever seen an encounter affect any room other than the one its occurring in.. well actually the temple wards teleport whole fights without interruption which would get super screwed if they teleported into an already active fight and they were out of sync.

Which yeah okay I see your point. So I'l just put all my hopes and dreams on superbrief mode.
