I like summoning. Admittedly usually its because in an actual D&D 4e game summoning and other similar is the most tactical option. But still I like summoning. So I suggest a summoning feat tree.
Feat 1: Expanded Summoning (Requirement, Must be a mage, Warlock or Druid, if multiclassing, choose one class to get this benefit. May be taken multiple times, must choose,a different class you control each time.)
Gives the caster access to a greater summoning spell that starts, weak and that grows in
power along with the caster. The summon is different for each class, school, heritage ect and provides the caster some actual options when summoning.
Like a druid might get a version of call animal spirit and the animal spirits have random effects. A wizard might get a wraith that has that temporary deleveling touch, an animated suit of armor that auto rescues the caster or a void that dispells single enchantments every once in a while depending on the school. Ditto for warlocks. The main point of this feat is to give low level casters a summoning option and high level casters just some strategic options. This feat would also grant other greater summons like elementals special attacks. Like ongoing damage from fire elementals, attack chains from wind elementals, auto stone skin onto party members from earth elementals and allow water elementals to produce droughts of water to drink.
Level 2 feat: Hardened minions. (Allow this feat to still be accessible through the magic damage tree)
Level 3 feat: Anchored Summons, Would provide summoned creatures regeneration and immunity to being dispelled.
Level 4 feat: Empowered summons
A toggleable feat that greatly boosts the summoned creatures of the caster but prevents the caster from casting anything except spells without an argument and prevents the caster from attacking.
Level 5 Feat: This feat gives non-fodder summons item slots that save even when the summon is dismissed. Allowing the summons to be equipped with approapiate arms and armor. _________________ PM me in the forum here when you want me on to RP or dungeon dive. This is a pretty interesting idea. I don't think it would fly without some serious balancing of the current summons (major disparity between classes right now, even before we tack on another potential mega-summon). If that were done though, it could potentially work as an alternative caster tree. |
