Now that rumours have been fully operational for a bit, I'd like to solicit some feedback about how it's going.
I'm especially interested in comments about the frequency with which you hear stuff when you're engaging in gossip. Do you have to wait too long to hear anything? Do rumours come up so often that it's boring & you've heard everything there is to hear?
Of course, any other comments are also welcome. This would be a good stage to make any adjustments that are needed*

Actually, I haven't heard a single piece of gossip yet... maybe I'm just not spending enough time in an area after "gossip at random", though. |

I can say it's likely I didn't spend 10 minutes anywhere that I attempted it I was a little upset that I couldn't search for gossip in the thieves guilds though, I thought that might be a good place to try |

I have waited upwards of a half hour before receiving anything; sometimes it seemed like more. And they come quite randomly - last evening I think it was about an hour before I heard anything between messages at all (possible I missed some), and when I finally did it was outside of a city, in a temple.
I would like some clarification on how it works. Once we turn on 'gossip at random' - or if we try to dig dirt - does it last until we log out? It would be helpful to have a command that said if we're currently gossiping randomly, or digging dirt, and on who. Can we dig on multiple names at once AND gossip at random?? I would like to be able to have an enable/disable gossip command (not sure if we can stop it once we've started it?) If we're murdered in a city in broad daylight, can we start a rumor about who did the killing?
The recall rumors command might not work as intended? I hoped it might show me a full list of all the rumors I've seen, but instead it prompts me to enter a name and a number. Which isn't the most helpful if I just want to review them generally, and have forgotten the names attached to any rumor I've heard.
Also, I've noticed that when we get background information, instead of the passage beginning with something like "A city guard tells you" - it just has a 0. And in one instance of background information, no name was given so I'm not sure who it was about. I'll try to keep track of these better so I can mail you when they come up; unfortunately I was in the middle of something at the time and didn't note it. I'll try harder!
One more suggestion..! I'd like to be able to put up information about a group of people - i.e. It's rumored that the shadovar have a strange fetish involving chicken feet.. (true story!)
Sorry, I know that's a lot of feedback, and mostly not on the positive side of things, because overall I think the command is really cool, and I love when a new rumor pops up on my screen. I've seen some really amusing ones. Hopefully people start using the command more, because it's really fun and can certainly add to roleplay and consequences.
In summary, stuff.. AND maybe adjust timing some, as well as include a toggle switch and lists to track what we're tracking.
Thanks for such a fun tool, Lujke! |

That's all helpful feedback, thanks Viola.
To answer a few bits:
The general feedback seems to be that rumours should pop up more often. I'll have a look at upping the chance of getting a rumour at each possible occasion. I don't want to make it too quick because I don't want it to be so that any one character can hear every rumour going.
Currently you can only be gossiping in one way at a time:
- at random
- digging dirt on a particular person
- digging up more information about a particular rumour
or - investigating the source of a particular rumour
Although I'm not opposed in principle to the idea you might be able to do more than one at a time, it's probably more work to retool it to allow that than I have brainspace for in the forseeable future.
I *do* have on my list (somewhere) the idea to add options for checking what you are currently doing in terms of gossip, and for stopping gossiping (for now, you just have to spend a bit of time in a room that's not suitable for the kind of gossip you are doing )
Starting a rumour about who murdered you is probably better done by using an avmail to ask us to do it - that way your character's name won't be attached to the rumour as the person who started it.
I'll look into the issue with the 0's in the wrapper for the background rumours - thanks
Gossip about groups of people / more general things going on in the Realms, I think I would like more time to think over the ramifications. For now, you can ask for such rumours to be started via avmail. _________________ Bears don't dig on dancing

Hi Lujke,
I love the gossip command. It is a lot of fun and it adds a whole new dimension to the game. Great job!
I have played around with a high influence type character and these are my experiences so far:
Gossip at Random:
Gossip at Random takes a while to “kick off”, but when it finally does, it seems to yield a new rumor every 5 to 10 minutes. Now, each time I have started the “gossip” command, I have waited around in the streets of Seneca for about 15 minutes, got bored and gone off to do something else (traveled to a new location, biography quest etc). Upon returning to a “gossip-able” location, such as Seneca or the Bloody Scourge, suddenly rumors will start to tick in at the frequency above.
Question: If I leave an area set to allow gossip, is the request delayed? Is it ever aborted? If so, can we please get an echo saying “You leave the area and stop gossiping.”?
Suggestion: Instead of upping the chance of getting a rumor, as you say, Lujke, perhaps you could add an echo on a “failed chance” that tells us we are still working on it, such as: “You are unable to gain any juicy gossip right now but continue your search” and “Damn. Those are some tight-lipped people you are trying to charm. You double your efforts, still hoping to loosen their tongues” or simply “you keep gossiping”.
In addition: I have noticed I cannot start the “gossip and random” command within the adventure hall on Seneca (at least not in the bakery or in the pub). However, when I start the sequence on the street, I still hear rumors when inside.
Dig Further into X:
I have not been able to get the “dig further into rumor” command to work at all. I spent maybe 45 minutes or more in Seneca (Pub in Adventure Hall and library) without gaining any further information.
Based on the above, I have the following questions:
If there is no more information to be gained about a rumor, does the command let us know?
If we fail a roll to gain more information, does the command let us know?
If not, could it please do so?
Are there any actions that would cancel or delay a “dig”? If I enter a location not set to be “gossip-able”, is the request to “dig further (…)” delayed or canceled? If it is, can we please get an echo saying “You leave the area, abandoning your search for information on X for now”?
I do not mind that the “dig into rumor” command takes a lot of time. I would not mind getting a “you fail to gain more information on the subject” after 45 minutes. I do however, get frustrated when I feel like I am just wasting 45 minutes by sitting around somewhere not knowing if I am actually digging for information or not.
EDIT: I have since been able to get a response on the "dig into rumor" command in the pub just west of Seneca's board.
Creating Gossip:
It would be great if it was possible to edit or amend rumors that we have written, at least the background ones.
Extra Suggestion:
Would it be possible to “share a rumor” with someone? I think it would be awesome if my character could seek out another character and go “Have you heard X about Y”, and have that rumor added to his/her list. As it is now, there does not seem to be much incentive to actually talk about the rumors.

Today I found and squished a bug that may have been making rumours come up less frequently than intended. Again, let me know if you notice any change (or not!).
I've also added a "check" option that will let you easily see what sort of rumours you are likely to find in the place you are in, and whether you are currently engaged in any gossip. See 'help gossip'.
I also slightly expanded the range of places you should be able to pick up 'city' rumours. Again, let me know of any other places where you think you should be able to find them but can't. _________________ Bears don't dig on dancing
