From what I understand, Shadowgate runs on LPC, right? And that's supposed to easy enough (to learn, not easy to do complex things) that people with no knowledge of coding can learn it. So, I'm wondering what good references and tutorial docs are available. So far, I've been reading this (don't ask me how far I am, the answer makes me sound lazy), and was hoping people could point out more. I'm sure other people might be interested, whether they want to help their ideas get into the game, want to become wizzes, or are thinking about the future. Any links, suggestions, and how-tos are welcome! And anyone willing to make a primer based off of Shadowgate's specific setup, you will be named God Amongst Immortals, and we will offer mats in your name.

I've seen a lot of different methods to teach people programming over the years. The one that I found to be the best for showing new people how to code is probably from processing.org. It's quick to learn and easy for a new programmer to see how his or her input effects the program. They've got a lot of tutorials and the IDE(integrated development environment) for their programming language is fairly light weight so it doesn't take a lot of system resources. My only complaint about it is that it lacks some of the ease of use features that professional programming software tends to have, like intellitype(unless they have added that since I used it last).

Another option would be to download Visual Studio Express from Microsoft, as it's free. It's a bit more bloated than processing.org but there are several books written for beginning programmers that are pretty easy to follow, plus the intellitype for completing code and searching inline for documentation about how it works makes it new person friendly-ish.

There are probably a lot of other solutions out there. Just remember that Shadowgate is loosely object oriented, so to get the most out of your time, you would want to focus on object oriented programming languages not procedural ones.

My suggestion tho, would be to check out processing.org first. It's similar enough to Shadowgate that it would be easy to switch, especially the basic concepts.

Thank you! Will definitely try processing.org.
